Mysore Palace (Amba Vilas) is the ceremonial seat of the Wadiyar dynasty and India's second most visited monument after the Taj Mahal. Built 1897–1912 in Indo-Saracenic style, its Durbar Hall, Kalyana Mantapa with peacock mosaic ceilings, and 100,000-bulb Sunday illumination rank it among India's most spectacular royal landmarks.
Designed by British architect Henry Irwin after the previous wooden palace was destroyed by fire in 1897, every Sunday evening at 7 PM — and for ten consecutive nights during Dasara — the entire facade glows with over a lakh of light bulbs, a tradition that draws tens of thousands of visitors.
10:00 AM–5:30 PM daily. Entry ₹70 (adults), ₹30 (children under 10). Camera fee ₹30. Bags must be left at the free cloakroom at the gate.
Every Sunday 7–8 PM and on all public holidays. During Dasara in October, the palace is lit for 10 consecutive days — unmissable.
KSRTC Volvo buses run every 30 minutes (3 hrs, ₹200–350). Shatabdi Express takes 2 hrs. By road via NH 275: ~2.5–3 hrs.
